Packing up the bags and heading out to Vegas to work with Tony. Looking forward to some long days and nights working on the record.
POST WHATEVER QUESTIONS/COMMENTS YOU HAVE HERE UNTIL I CAN RE DESIGN THIS PAGE TO ACCOUNT FOR THE RECORD
I made it through my 40th birthday hoo fuckin ray for me,I’m officially old.On to bigger and better news, the funding for the record with Tony is coming together and things are going to start moving a lot more quickly. It’s going to be so rewarding to make a record I can be proud of and not make excuses for. I havent made a record from start to finish that I can actually listen to from start to finish, let alone be proud of in more years than I can remember. I think the Enemy record was the last record I made that wasnt contrived BS made to fulfill an obligation. It was pure,it was about the songs and sentiment and nothing else. I’m looking forward to getting back to that.Organic music made by musicians, no “behind the curtain” bullshit. This is gonna be good.
In a past life known as my 20′s and 30′s I was fortunate enough to travel all over the world and get paid for it. As rad as that was the airport and hotel part was always a pain in the ass. Here’s a few tips I have to make your next trip more enjoyable.
1. Even if your going off to a far and distant land for a long period of time never pack more than what will fit in carry on luggage. If your a dude there’s nothing you can’t do in 3 pairs of jeans,5 T-Shirts,7 pairs of boxers and socks, a sweatshirt/sweater and a jacket. Your a dude, make it work. There’s nothing worse than having the airline lose your luggage.
2. Pay the upgrade fee for first class.
3. Back in the day I’d check into the hotel under a fake name so fans wouldn’t come knocking on my door at 3:00am, but this had an added benefit that works for everybody. If your on the west coast or in Japan, check in under the name David Lee Roth, if your in middle America check in under Ted Nugent, for the rest of the world use Jon Bon Jovi. You’ll be amazed at how much faster your room service comes, it’s amazing, it’s as though they had already made the food before you ordered it. More travel tips to come.
Sorry for the lag in posts, things have been really busy lately. I’ve been working on a guitar product that I cant say much about as we don’t have a patent yet, but needless to say it’s very cool. I’m working on a distortion/boost pedal as well that has some unique features and will be for sale through this website in a couple of months. I’ve been writing some songs that I will post as soon as they are registered with ASCAP (not that I don’t trust you guys not to steal my music and claim it as your own…….yeah right haha) as well as going through some old songs for the project with Tony Fredianelli, which is moving along pretty well. We’ll have Arion Salazar playing bass on some of it,so it looks like it’s shaping up to be a lot of the creative and writing elements of Third Eye Blind minus the out of tune arrogant aspect of it. It would be amazing to get Kevin Cadogan involved, but I doubt he’d be into it……
I’ve been giving bass/songwriting lessons as well as helping folks on a limited budget finish their projects; everything from hip hop to rock. It’s been pretty rewarding from a creative stand point and keeps me connected with what the current musical trends are. My time is really limited for doing that stuff, but I’d like to do more of it as time permits. If your in the SF bay area and would like my help send an email to Brian at email@example.com and he’ll get you sorted out with the scheduling and how this stuff works etc. I’m slammed on time right now,but can fit a few small things in, but stuff like production and mixing records take a bit more planning. Last but not least the Brougham record is almost done. I’ll post some rough demos and keep your eyes open for some shows if your on the Left Coast.
Ok,I’ve finally gotten off my ass and started posting some of the rough mixes of what was to be the second Snake River Conspiracy record. I’ve added a song called Dying which was one of the first songs I started getting together. This version of the song has Martina Axen singing on it as her performance sounded a lot less forced than the version with Tobey singing it. The second song I posted is called Hide. It was written by Troy VanLeeuwen,Eddie Nappi and I. It was one of the last songs written for the record and has Tobey singing on it. Her performance kills on this one, I doubt anyone else could have pulled this one off, it’s one of my favorite songs we did, mostly because of Troy and Eddie’s work on it. I think out of all the time I lived in LA and all the different musicians I worked with those two guys were the most talented and most underrated players I’ve ever worked with. I hope we get a chance to do something together again before we’re too old, jaded and thrashed to enjoy it. More songs to come soon. If your interested in the stories behind the songs post a question and I’ll do my best to answer.
I’d like to start this post off with a big fuck you to Digidesign, I spent half the day installing different versions of Protools until I found the combination of steps to make it work. Normally I never touch the infernal program, but the project I’m working on is using it and it takes too much time to take everything back and forth between ‘Tools and Logic Audio. Ok, enough of that. I spoke to Tony Fredianelli on the phone today and we decided to make a record together. Tony replaced Kevin Cadogan as the guitar player in 3rd Eye Blind, I think it was after the second record. Funilly enough Tony was the first guitar player in that band, left shortly before the first record was recorded only to come back a few years later. He and I have written together for other projects, so it’ll be fun to make a record with my old buddy, we were originally introduced by a buddyfucker……. Funny how it all comes around. Back to writing a bridge for a song. Y’all come back now ya hear!!!
So,the holidays are over,I’m past the worst of the plague
and I’m back in Washington working. Funny how I’m already
frustrated and a little pissed and I haven’t seen anybody or
started work. I know for this to be great will require
arguing, participating in petty manipulations and lame politics and
I just don’t care enough to go through any of that crap. I
don’t have to go through it on any other jobs, why should I on this
one? It sucks that I can’t just sit down and make it great, but it
is what it is. It’s kinda like my ex wife used to say “if ya wipe
your ass wash your hands, don’t sit around and bitch that everything
smells like shit” she was wise, there’s probably some deep zen in
there. I’m working on getting the first SRC record up
Flu turned into walking pneumonia……….Rad. So I’m gonna start posting some music that I’ve been getting email about starting with the roughs for the second SRC record, then possibly some R.O.T.T stuff. It’ll take me a little time but I’ll get it all on here.
So I came home from Seattle for Xmas break from making this new Queensryche record and got the flu when I stepped off the plane. After 6 days it turned into walking pneumonia. Some fuckin vacation….. Reminds me of sum thin my ex wife once said, “you should quit all that record makin’ nonsense and get a real job with benefits, dumb ass. Now pass the ice cream and find the remote”
She might’ve been right……
