so, here we are with a message board with nothing positive to say and a lot of people making a lot of assumptions about me,my motivations, what I decide to work on or not etc. etc. I dont owe any of them an explaination, but before the crap talking and assumptions get too far from the truth there might be a shadow of a chance of getting the truth out there and having it get considered as much as the lies. I dont expect all the anti Tate BDR folks to do an about face, but maybe some truth will set them in the right direction so they can move on and badmouth the next guy. I write songs for and produce whatever is interesting to me,I could have been scoring 2 films right now,but I pushed them back to work on a record with Geoff Tate. Not because of mounting hospital bills or desperation, but because I wanted to. I’ve always enjoyed working with Geoff, what I didnt enjoy was the way QR did business. I didnt enjoy writing songs and having to give my publishing to people that couldnt be bothered to show up and work on the record and then to add insult to injury have them complain about the songs or my work on them. If your that unhappy with it gimme my publishing back or better yet be involved so things are more to your liking. The other part I didnt like was dealing with Kelly Gray. I got the opportunity to work with Geoff without any of those issues as well as a bunch of other musicians I respect and I took it. Period. It’s what I love to do and what I do for a living, why its a surprise to anybody is a mystery to me. Everybodies up in arms about Geoff not writing everything, well he’s written every word and every melody, what the hell else is a singer supposed to write?!?! People dont want to look at the reality of what happened with the split of this band,a few days before the band left for Brazil I got calls from both Mike Wilton and Parker Lundgren asking me if they could use some of the heavier songs I had submitted for previous records,I smelled fuckery in the air and declined, but what if I hadn’t? you guys would be getting a record with my songs anyways and you’d probably get my playing as well. So whats the big damn deal!?!?! your gonna get a record from those guys, and your gonna get a record from Geoff. Nobodies making comparisons, nobodies telling you what to buy,in fact nobodies telling you to do anything so why waste all this time and energy spewing ill will all over the place? Are you trying to show how clever you are? your failing. Are you trying to get attention? your getting a little, but nothing near what you think. It’s all pretty ridiculous, we’re all doing what we do for a living with the people we wanna do it with. If those guys are happy and Geoff’s happy and every bodies doing what they wanna do why all the fuss? you can post a bunch of crappy stuff about any of us,but this is the most your gonna get out of it,a post from me hahaha. Are you proud? Do you have a feeling of accomplishment? I guess what I’m getting at is your wasting your time, nobodies gonna change what they are doing just because you post a bunch of piss and venom. You aint raining on my parade,I’m working on music I love with people I dig while I’m typing this and when this records over I’ll be working on something else, what will you be doing? Posting negative shit about sumthin thats already in my rearview hahahaha. Enjoy. Relax and quit spewing bullshit theres actually real issues in the world to be outraged about.
Been busy as hell working on a record with some rock legends, feeling blessed to be working on great songs with great musicians, this record is gonna slay. I’ll be posting photos/vids in the next couple days, but cant say much about the record right now. After a year of nothing but bad news health wise this record is doing a lot for my spirits. I’ll post as much as I am permitted by the powers that be. Looking forward for you guys to hear this one. Needless to say the SRC 1&2 plus extras CD will be pushed back even further,I have some legal issues to work out as I’m trying to include all the B-Sides and remixes we released from the US and Europe. the majority of the first record will be the original tracks we recorded before we had a record deal, which are really cool. I’m excited to get it all finished and up on iTunes, but it’ll be a few months later than I had planned. I’m gonna quit promising to post more often, cuz I just kinda get to it when I can and when I’m sitting around doing nothing theres nothing to post about. There will be a lot of posts around his record, but thats all I’m gonna promise. hahaha, I just did it again……..whatever. Hope Y’all are doing well.
I’m in secret squirrel mode,I’m working on 3 things I can’t tell you about. I can tell you that one is metal, one isn’t and the other is a score. Needless to say I’ve been writing like crazy, somewhere in the area of 3 hours of music needs to be written in a pretty short period of time, so everything else has been put on hold. I’m only leaving the house to work on one project,go to Kaiser Hospital (my favorite place on earth) and go to the grocery store,so the blog as usual is suffering.
I really wish I could put some new content up for you guys but none of these projects will allow and the rest of the old SRC stuff needs work before I post it. Speaking of SRC,there will be a new (kinda) record out in the first half of the new year. Eric Valentine and I are releasing the original version of the record we had finished before we had a deal along with extra stuff that didn’t get used and all the songs that were recorded for SRC 2. A whole lot of music for 9 bucks! It’s on the calendar and its happening. I’m trying to recruit Michael Kahne for new artwork…….it’ll be cool. I’ll be happy to have that behind me and finally have closed the SRC chapter once and for all, everything that we ever generated for that project will finally be out and in one place, including all the remixes and B-Sides,in total it’s close to 20 songs. Work beckons,I’ll post again soon.
For about a year or so I’ve been planning on starting a weekly podcast reviewing records, recording equipment and interviewing people associated with those things. I’ve got the first two hour long shows recorded and will be posting the podcast on iTunes as well as 5kb.com when I have 5 episodes in the bag. It’s entertaining stuff, check it out.
On the music front I’ve been writing as much as time permits and creating sound banks for Akai’s new line of MPC drum samplers. I’m taking a little break from finishing up the work on all the old songs.
I came to a realization the other day when thinking about an old friend. You don’t have to F**k someone to be a starf**ker and you don’t have to be a star to get starf**ked. Think about it.
On to bigger, better and more interesting subject matter,I’m really stoked about the bay area music scene right now. A lot of great bands like Man Made God have gotten back together to play shows recently and there have been a surprising amount of new bands that are worth listening to. One in particular that I dig is Diamond Lane. I hope the trend continues. I don’t get out to many shows, but when I do it’s nice to not have it suck.
I wanna thank Amy and Dave for helping me sort out the Wikipedia problems. At some point I’ll get the full discography and proper info on the pages. In the meantime if you have any questions just ask as most of the info on the SRC page is inacurrate.
I’m redesigning the site, adding some new sections and making it easier for me to add content from my mobile devices.
Ill be reviewing records I like, equipment I use and posting remixes and projects I’m working on with info about how I got em done. I hope you enjoy.
Sorry there haven’t been any updates, I’ve been having some health issues that have been taking up a lot of my time, but I’ll fill y’all in later.
I’m finally trying to learn how to use WordPress and am reformatting whats here and adding more sections for comments, record reviews, articles, news and production tips.It aint gonna happen overnight, but things should be looking different soon.
