The Lag 4!!!!

No more excuses, the gods just hate me. After spending a month with a nasty infection caused by the removal of a benign tumor I ended up with MRSA. Thousands of dollars in antibiotics and a month in bed cured it. I had a great 5 days of being healthy then WHAM!! Head on collision with an Escalade. Totaled my car,air bag didn’t go off, seatbelt was useless, busted the windshield with my head etc etc. broke, bruised ,battered and scarred but Im on the mend. I swear I’ll have some time to keep this thing updated this year….atleast once a week.

The Lag 3!

Sorry for not posting, I’ve been recovering from some surgeries and haven’t been thinking about blogging much. I’ve been writing a lot of music,re-addressing some of the old SRC songs so I can post the 2nd record and working on mixing some records for people. I found a really cool heavy song that Eric Hendrikx and I had written for SRC that got recorded with Neil Taylor playing drums,Eric on guitar,me playing bass and Tobey singing. It sounds like SRC 1 mixed with Alice In Chains or sumthin along those lines. It’s gonna be pretty cool when it’s done. Instead of posting most of the comments you guys are posting I’m just replying with emails to keep things simple. I’m Putting together a weekly video podcast with my friend reviewing metal/rock records and reporting on some news. I’ll let you guys know when it’s up and running. Thank for your patience.

More Songs

Here’s a couple more SRC2 songs,Methlahem and Drug Tongue. These were demo’s that I worked up with Troy VanLeeuwen. None of these SRC songs are complete, they are pretty much at the demo stage where I would start working on production etc. But you can get a pretty good idea of where things were going. I was really trying to make a more consistent record that wasn’t as much of a showcase for production and much more of a guitar based record. I’ll be posting more this coming week, some of them still need a little work before I post em and I gotta find the time. I have to be in a particular mood to work on em cuz honestly the more I dig into working on them the more I feel what a shame it is that I couldn’t get the second record out. Eventually I’d like to see all of them through and put a record out with some of the songs leftover from the first record and all the remixes as one big package…..,.we’ll see what the future holds. I will get the rest of the demo’s up and then start posting another project I had started.

the Lag 2

I’ve been lagging on this thing again, I’m trying to return all the emails, please be patient I promise I will reply to all of them. Lots of new stuff in the works. I finally finished building my guitar amp and it sounds awesome,I’m really happy with it. Tony and I have narrowed down the ten songs we’re going to put on the record and are out of demo mode and are going to Start recording drums and bass next week. I’m almost done mixing the Brougham record, just waiting on Luke to put vocals on two songs. I finished three songs for a movie (more details to come when the contracts are signed and everything’s official) and I’ve started mixing some old songs that I’ll post up here. I spoke with Eric Hendrikx and it looks like we’ll be starting a project together soon. I’m really excited about that,I always have a great time making metal with that guy. I’m going through all the MP3′s of everything I’ve ever done so I’ll post a ton of stuff once I get it all organized and Justin,if your reading this, I’ll email all the songs I promised to send you haha. This month marks year two of my quest to become a passable guitar player. I hit a major milestone and can play Metallica’s Battery at about 3/4 speed and finally memorized the solo to Megadeth’s Symphony of Destruction………I just gotta figure out how to make it sound like it’s not being played by a retarded person. There are a couple sections I’ll probably never get,but it’s such a well constructed solo that it’s worth continuing hacking away at just for techniques sake……it’s good to have goals, it may take me another two years, but I’ll nail that thing eventually. I also just made dinner,so I’m going to go eat it.

40!!

I made it through my 40th birthday hoo fuckin ray for me,I’m officially old.On to bigger and better news, the funding for the record with Tony is coming together and things are going to start moving a lot more quickly. It’s going to be so rewarding to make a record I can be proud of and not make excuses for. I havent made a record from start to finish that I can actually listen to from start to finish, let alone be proud of in more years than I can remember. I think the Enemy record was the last record I made that wasnt contrived BS made to fulfill an obligation. It was pure,it was about the songs and sentiment and nothing else. I’m looking forward to getting back to that.Organic music made by musicians, no “behind the curtain” bullshit. This is gonna be good.

Travel tips from J

In a past life known as my 20′s and 30′s I was fortunate enough to travel all over the world and get paid for it. As rad as that was the airport and hotel part was always a pain in the ass. Here’s a few tips I have to make your next trip more enjoyable.

1. Even if your going off to a far and distant land for a long period of time never pack more than what will fit in carry on luggage. If your a dude there’s nothing you can’t do in 3 pairs of jeans,5 T-Shirts,7 pairs of boxers and socks, a sweatshirt/sweater and a jacket. Your a dude, make it work. There’s nothing worse than having the airline lose your luggage.

2. Pay the upgrade fee for first class.

3. Back in the day I’d check into the hotel under a fake name so fans wouldn’t come knocking on my door at 3:00am, but this had an added benefit that works for everybody. If your on the west coast or in Japan, check in under the name David Lee Roth, if your in middle America check in under Ted Nugent, for the rest of the world use Jon Bon Jovi. You’ll be amazed at how much faster your room service comes, it’s amazing, it’s as though they had already made the food before you ordered it. More travel tips to come.
